My life with Moose began on December 18, 2006.
Life has truly changed for me since that day that I drove to Sycamore (where
Moose and his siblings were in a foster home)
and returned home with a 3 month old terrier mix puppy. One look at
Moose and his big brown eyes and my heart just melted. The world
of puppies was new to me, thank goodness Moose was a quick learner and
he was house trained within the first week!
When Moose was only 8 months old, I took him to be filmed at Channel
26 WCIU. He appeared for a month on television in between programs. He
was on screen for less than a minute with the announcement “This is Moose,
he watches “The Insider”. I guess you could call that Moose’s 15 seconds of
fame. It was a really fun experience and I have that great memory recorded
on dvd.
Since I own my own antique shop in Chicago, I am able to take Moose to
work with me every day. That is exactly what I have done for over a year
now. My customers and their dogs look forward to visiting him and many
come to my shop just to play with him or take him for a walk. He gives
kisses to all he meets and is quite the cuddler. Everyone seems to know
Moose by name, although I cannot say the same about them knowing my
name!
He is such a sociable dog. I take him with me when I sell at antique
shows in Sandwich and Grayslake. He has become sort of a mascot for my
business.
He is a wonderful traveling companion, we have taken many long trips
together. He has been to Indiana, Wisconsin, Missouri and to my sister’s
farm in Kansas. It was quite an experience for him to be exposed to the
world of sheep and cattle.
He has completed basic and intermediate obedience classes and I hope to
enroll him in an agility class in the near future. He has endless energy and is
an extremely fast runner. He walks on his hind legs when he sees another
dog in the distance which has caused many people to take a second look at
him. It even makes me laugh no matter how many times I see him do it.
Thank you to Eileen (Moose’s foster mom), Michelle and all the other
wonderful people at H.E.L.P that made this adoption a reality. I am so
grateful for having Moose in my life.
